Born in Illinois, David has been involved with music since he picked up a violin at the age of three. He progressed to trombone as he grew and discovered the piano at the age of 11 and playing organ at his local church through junior and high school. Finishing high school in Barrington, RI, he continued his education at Boston Conservatory of Music, majoring in Music education and piano in 1976. He also has taken classes at Johnson Wales culinary arts school in Providence R.I.
Upon completing his studies at Boston Conservatory, David toured with several large bands that he formed, opening for many major acts at many of the finest clubs on the East Coast. He managed a Hammond Organ store in Boston for Sherman Clay before moving to San Jose, CA, in 1978. In 1982 and 1983 he was asked to help open the first and second U.S. Festivals for Steve Wozniak of Apple Computers with over 300,000 attending.
He has held long-term engagements as solo or ensemble keyboardist at such places as: Silver Creek CC, La Rinconada CC, Lou’s Village, Sainte Claire Hotel, DeAnza Hotel, and Los Altos Bar & Grill. David has performed at countless corporate functions, benefits and weddings and also worked as a music agent through the Entertainment Connection coordinating music and entertainment for many events and venues.
David has lead and formed a popular dance band for the last 30 years the L’il Big Band.
In the past 40 years David has held executive positions in the music retail industry such as V.P. of Stevens Music and Operations Manager of San Jose Music Center in Willow Glen, San Jose. In 1994 he co-founded the non-profit, Steinway Society the Bay Area and also founded the Puget Sound Steinway Society in 2002. In 1992, he re-joined Sherman Clay Co. representing Steinway & Sons Pianos in the San Francisco Bay Area until June of 2013.
Before briefly moving to the Northwest in 2001 he was inducted into the Bay Area Hall of Fame for Musicians and given an award by the Steinway Society for outstanding contribution to music and the community. He was Music Director of West Valley Church of Religious Science in Campbell for 6 years and more recently been music director at CSL San Jose from 2004 to 2006 and currently now pianist for house band where his belief in the philosophy “change your thinking , change your life” has carried him through many of life’s challenges.
In 2014, David earned his real estate license and is currently representing Pertria Real Estate Investments and Property Management in Los Gatos Ca., lead by well-known leaders in that field, Helen Pastorino and Harry Murray. In January 2016 in celebrating 40 years in the piano industry. David received the opportunity to manage a Kawai dealership in Gilroy. There one can find preowned piano brands, such as Steinway, Yamaha, Schimmel and digital and player pianos using the latest technology.
Dave Dumont, Is the new owner of Gilroy Piano Outlet and is representing PERTRIA in real estate and property management.
Dave performs a variety of musical styles, as well as being an accompanist, arranger and music agent.
He is also a master gardener, food critic and gourmet chef.
